Analysis: What Drives the Industry Gap?

The 25-point gap between the highest-scoring industry (SaaS at 72) and the lowest (HR at 47) is significant and reflects several underlying dynamics. Technology-adjacent industries benefit from a rich content ecosystem — blog posts, whitepapers, documentation, and community discussions — that AI models ingest during training. SaaS companies in particular have spent years building authoritative content libraries that translate directly into strong knowledge presence within large language models.

Conversely, industries like HR, Insurance, and Real Estate have historically relied on relationship-driven sales and localized marketing. Their content footprint is thinner and less structured, making it harder for AI models to form confident associations between brands and topics. The good news for these lagging industries is that the competitive bar is lower — a modest GEO investment can move the needle significantly when the industry median sits below 55.

Mid-tier industries such as Healthcare and Education are particularly interesting. Both have deep domain expertise and institutional authority, but regulatory caution and fragmented digital presence hold back their visibility scores. Healthcare brands that invest in structured, authoritative content see disproportionate gains because AI models weigh medical accuracy heavily.

Key Findings

  • SaaS leads with a median score of 72, benefiting from decades of content marketing investment that now feeds directly into AI training data.
  • The bottom quartile is wide open. Even in top-scoring industries, bottom-quartile brands score in the low 50s, proving that brand size alone does not guarantee AI visibility.
  • Traditional industries have the most to gain. HR (47), Insurance (49), and Real Estate (51) have the lowest median scores but also the lowest competitive barriers to improvement.
  • Cybersecurity punches above its weight at 70, driven by a strong thought leadership culture and frequent third-party citations in security advisories and reports.
  • The content-to-visibility pipeline is clear. Industries with mature content marketing ecosystems consistently outperform those that rely on paid channels and direct sales.

Methodology

Scores are calculated using the Presenc AI 6-factor GEO scoring model, aggregating Knowledge Presence, Semantic Authority, Entity Linking, Citations, RAG Fetchability, and Contextual Integrity. The median is taken across all brands in each industry with at least 60 days of monitoring data. Data reflects Q1 2026 measurements. Sample size: 2,400+ brands across 15 industries.

Frequently Asked Questions

SaaS leads with a median AI visibility score of 72 out of 100, followed by Cybersecurity at 70 and Fintech at 68. These industries benefit from mature content marketing ecosystems and strong thought leadership traditions that translate well into AI model training data.
Industries like HR (47), Insurance (49), and Real Estate (51) score lower because they have historically relied on relationship-driven sales and localized marketing rather than building large-scale digital content libraries. AI models form associations based on available training data, and thinner content footprints result in lower visibility scores.
The scores use the Presenc AI 6-factor GEO scoring model, which aggregates Knowledge Presence, Semantic Authority, Entity Linking, Citations, RAG Fetchability, and Contextual Integrity into a composite 0-100 score. Measurements are taken across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, and Copilot.
Absolutely. Even in top-scoring industries like SaaS, the bottom quartile scores only 54 — proving brand size is not the only factor. In low-scoring industries, the competitive bar is lower, meaning a focused GEO strategy can move your brand to the top quartile faster than in more mature sectors.
