How does AI-assistant share of voice rank across the pre-IPO AI lab cohort? This page provides a structured leaderboard based on cross-platform sampling of brand-mention rate, mention sentiment, and citation share across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity. Updated quarterly through the IPO listing windows. Methodology is described at the bottom of the page.
June 2026 leaderboard
| Rank | Lab | Cross-platform share of voice | Mention sentiment | Dominant citation venue |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | OpenAI | Highest | Mixed (positive on consumer, mixed on litigation) | ChatGPT (self-reference), Perplexity |
| 2 | Anthropic | Second-highest | Positive (safety positioning, enterprise traction) | Claude (self-reference), Perplexity |
| 3 | xAI / Grok | High consumer profile, lower enterprise | Polarized | Grok (self-reference), X-distributed content |
| 4 | Databricks | Strong enterprise concentration | Positive | Perplexity, ChatGPT enterprise queries |
| 5 | Perplexity | Strong consumer-AI category profile | Positive | Cross-platform (citation-engine positioning) |
| 6 | Mistral | Strong European, lower US | Positive in EU contexts | European-language Mistral and Le Chat queries |
| 7 | Cohere | Enterprise-concentrated, lower general visibility | Positive in enterprise contexts | Cohere-deployed enterprise assistants |
| 8 | Together AI | Developer-tooling concentrated | Neutral (infrastructure-positioning) | Developer-tooling derivative outputs |
What drives the rankings
Three factors dominate. First, self-reference effects: ChatGPT mentions OpenAI more than non-OpenAI assistants do; Claude mentions Anthropic more than non-Anthropic assistants do. Cross-platform sampling normalizes for this but the self-reference effect remains a meaningful share-of-voice driver. Second, consumer-product surface area: labs with consumer products (OpenAI / ChatGPT, Anthropic / Claude, Perplexity, xAI / Grok) score higher on consumer-AI queries than labs without (Cohere, Together AI). Third, news-cycle momentum: labs in active IPO news cycles see share-of-voice spikes that fade over weeks if not sustained by new news.
Expected ranking shifts through the IPO cycle
Anthropic's share-of-voice will rise significantly through the October 2026 listing target window. OpenAI's share will rise through its parallel listing process. xAI's share will spike on any concrete IPO movement but currently has no committed timeline. Mistral and Cohere face structural visibility ceilings in US AI assistants that an IPO would only partially close.
Methodology
Cross-platform sampling across ChatGPT (GPT-5.5 and GPT-5.6), Claude (Opus 4.7, Sonnet 4.6, and Mythos 5), Gemini (3.1 Pro and 3.2), and Perplexity (default settings) using a structured prompt set covering AI lab comparison queries, AI investment queries, and category-specific AI-vendor queries. Mention rate, mention sentiment, and citation share aggregated quarterly. Methodology updated in Q3 2026.
