By Ramanath, CTO & Co-Founder at Presenc AI · Last updated: October 2026

OpenAI held DevDay on September 29, 2026. The headline was Dots, but the wider theme was ChatGPT turning into a place where people, agents, and third-party software work in the same window. This page lists what was announced, sorted by who it affects, and then pulls out the parts that matter for brand visibility.

Models and Plans

GPT-6.1 Sol is the practical release for most teams. It is priced at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens with a 1,050,000-token context window, and OpenAI says it approaches Astra on agentic coding, computer use, and professional work. Details are in the GPT-6.1 Sol release brief.

GPT-6.1 Astra did not ship. Reporting from WIRED and the Wall Street Journal says OpenAI cancelled the planned release after the model fell short on staying within the scope it was authorised for. OpenAI's own evaluation of GPT-6.1 Sol reports a higher rate of coding deception than Astra, 1.50 percent against 0.51 percent across 49,650 internal Codex tasks, which gives a sense of what the company is measuring.

Pro 500 adds a $500 per month tier above the existing Pro plans. Techloy also reports that the $200 Pro plan's work allowance will be cut from 20 times Plus to 10 times from October 30. We have not confirmed that against an OpenAI page, so treat it as reported.

Agents and Collaboration

Dots are covered in full on the OpenAI Dots page. Space is the environment they work in: a shared area where people, ChatGPT, and dots edit the same Pages and where Tasks run on a schedule or on a trigger such as an incoming email or Slack message.

Developer Platform and Distribution

Three additions change how software reaches ChatGPT users:

  • Plugin extensions let a plugin render sidebars, panels, and file viewers, so a product can be used inside ChatGPT and Codex rather than linked out to.
  • Sign in with ChatGPT lets an outside app use the ChatGPT identity and consume part of a user's existing allowance, which removes the need for separate API keys.
  • The OpenAI Marketplace opened in beta with 32 partners. Named partners in coverage include Adobe, Figma, Sierra, CodeRabbit, Notion, HubSpot, Salesforce, ServiceNow, Harvey, Vercel, Zendesk, Palo Alto Networks, and CrowdStrike. Eligible enterprises can direct part of an existing OpenAI spending commitment to those products.

Event coverage put ChatGPT's reach at about 1.2 billion weekly users. That figure comes from recaps of the keynote rather than from an OpenAI document we could read, so quote it with care.

What Was Not Announced

The coverage we reviewed reported no new advertising or shopping announcements at DevDay. ChatGPT ads and product discovery continue on the track described in ChatGPT ads statistics and the ACP merchant adoption tracker.

Brand Visibility Implications

  • ChatGPT is becoming a place where software is used, not only recommended. Plugin extensions and the Marketplace mean some products can be opened and bought inside ChatGPT. Brands in categories with a Marketplace partner now compete against a vendor one click away.
  • Background agents raise the value of machine-readable pages. Dots and Tasks read sites when no person is present. Public pricing, clean documentation, and pages that load without a challenge matter more than they did a month ago.
  • The model behind an answer now varies even more by plan. Free and Go users stay on older models, Plus gets GPT-6.1 Sol in Work and Codex, and Pro and business users get Astra and dots. Baselines should record the plan and model that produced each answer.
  • MCP Events make integrations proactive. A connected app can tell ChatGPT that something changed. Brands with an MCP server can surface a price change or a renewal without waiting to be asked. See MCP server ecosystem statistics.

Methodology

This page is built from vendor announcements and launch-week reporting, not from Presenc AI measurements. Primary sources are used wherever one exists, including Meta's Connect 2026 newsroom post and product blog, xAI's news page, and X's Original Content Rewards help page. Where a detail comes only from press coverage, such as TechCrunch on Dots, Bloomberg on Amazon and Muse, or PPC Land on X Ads MCP, the page says so. These products are new and none of the vendors has published independent success rates. Status as of October 1, 2026.

How Presenc AI Helps

Presenc AI tracks how ChatGPT describes and recommends your brand across the prompts that matter to your buyers, so you can see whether a platform change like this one moved your share of recommendations.

Frequently Asked Questions

OpenAI DevDay 2026 took place on September 29, 2026. The main announcements were Dots, GPT-6.1 Sol, the Ultrafast speed tier, the $500 per month Pro 500 plan, Space and Pages, the Agents API, Sign in with ChatGPT, and the OpenAI Marketplace.
The OpenAI Marketplace is a beta programme, announced at DevDay 2026 with 32 partners, that lets eligible enterprises spend part of their existing OpenAI commitment on approved partner software. Partners named in coverage include Adobe, Figma, Notion, Salesforce, ServiceNow, HubSpot, Harvey, Vercel, and Zendesk.
No. OpenAI released GPT-6.1 Sol but not GPT-6.1 Astra. Reporting from WIRED and the Wall Street Journal says the planned Astra update was held back after it missed an internal safety bar related to staying within authorised scope. GPT-6 Astra remains the flagship.
Check that pricing and product pages can be read by an unattended agent, record which ChatGPT plan and model produce each tracked answer, and review whether your category has a Marketplace partner or plugin that can now be used inside ChatGPT. Then re-run brand baselines from September 29 onward rather than carrying older numbers forward.
