GEO Case Studies Benchmark 2026

Structured analysis of documented GEO case studies across industries, what worked, by how much, and what applies to your brand.

Documented GEO Results Across Industries

One of the fair critiques of Generative Engine Optimization in 2024 was that it lacked documented case studies with hard numbers. That has changed. By 2026, a meaningful corpus of public case studies exists, spanning manufacturing, fintech, e-commerce, professional services, and SaaS, with measured visibility and traffic outcomes. This page compiles the best-documented cases, extracts what worked, and identifies the patterns that transfer across industries.

Featured Case Studies

2,300% AI traffic growth in industrial manufacturing (Diggity Marketing)

Source: Diggity Marketing AI Overviews case study

What changed: E-E-A-T signal overhaul, named author bios with verifiable credentials, publication dates, editorial standards pages, and reviewer disclosures added across the site. Structured data for organization, author, and article was added on every canonical page.

What lifted: AI Overview citation rate on target keywords rose from near-zero to consistent inclusion. Total AI-sourced traffic grew 23x over a 6-month window.

What transfers: E-E-A-T signals are cheap to implement (days of work, not months) and produce measurable AI-visibility lift especially for industries with lower baseline authority signal. Manufacturing is a good test case because most competitors are weak on these signals.

200% monthly growth in auto parts (Hedges Company)

What changed: Schema markup completion across all product pages plus llms.txt implementation at the domain root. Structured data for Product, Offer, AggregateRating, and Review was added site-wide.

What lifted: ChatGPT and Perplexity citation rates for product-category queries tripled month-over-month. Traffic from AI-sourced referrers grew 200% monthly for the first three months post-implementation.

What transfers: E-commerce with clean product schema and llms.txt can capture AI-mediated shopping queries that competitors miss entirely. The technical lift is modest and the measurement is direct (AI referral traffic).

7x growth, Ramp (fintech, B2B)

Source: Profound Ramp case study

What changed: Ramp invested in comprehensive category and comparison content, G2/Capterra profile optimization, and strategic earned media in top-tier fintech press (TechCrunch, WSJ, Bloomberg).

What lifted: AI visibility score rose from 3.2% to 22.2% on their target prompt set, a 7x improvement in mention rate across ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity.

What transfers: Well-resourced B2B brands can achieve aggressive AI-visibility gains in 6–12 months by coordinating owned content, third-party profile optimization, and earned media as a single GEO program. The "treat AI visibility as a channel, not a side project" framing matters.

115% AI Overview visibility, Geneva Worldwide (translation services)

Source: Boulder SEO Marketing case study

What changed: Deep service-page content for each language pair, aggressive FAQ sections targeting long-tail informational queries, and structured data covering FAQPage and Service schema.

What lifted: AI Overview inclusion rate for translation-service queries rose 115% over 4 months. Organic search traffic also lifted as a side effect.

What transfers: Service businesses with many sub-categories (practice areas, language pairs, service tiers) have a structural advantage if they actually build out the matrix in content rather than hiding behind generic "we do everything" pages.

Real-time ChatGPT optimization (Go Fish Digital)

Source: Go Fish Digital ChatGPT influence case study

What changed: Targeted content interventions timed to ChatGPT Search retrieval cycles. Publishing fresh authoritative content in response to gaps identified via AI audit.

What lifted: Documented direct influence on ChatGPT Search responses for target queries within days of publication.

What transfers: The feedback loop on ChatGPT Search is faster than most teams assume. A disciplined "publish → audit → iterate" cycle can move ChatGPT citations within 1–2 weeks for retrieval-based answers.

Cross-Case Patterns That Replicate

Four patterns appear consistently across the documented case studies. Brands that implemented at least three of the four saw meaningful AI visibility lift within 90–180 days:

1. Structured data is the cheapest unlock

Every case study with documented schema/JSON-LD investment reported disproportionate visibility lift relative to the effort. This is consistent with the Schanbacher academic study on real estate agencies. If your site lacks Organization, Article, Product, and FAQ schema on canonical pages, that is almost certainly the highest-ROI fix.

2. E-E-A-T signals compound

Named authors with credentials, published update dates, editorial standards pages, and reviewer disclosures consistently moved AI-visibility metrics. These are not new SEO ideas, but AI systems appear to weight them more heavily than Google Search does.

3. Breadth of content matters more than depth on single pages

Brands that built out sub-category and comparison content at scale out-performed brands that invested equivalent effort in a few flagship pages. AI systems cite the specific page that answers a specific question; generic ultimate-guide pages that try to cover everything get cited less often than focused pages.

4. Third-party signals are non-negotiable

No case study in this corpus succeeded with owned content alone. G2, Capterra, Wikipedia, press coverage, and industry directory presence were all part of the mix. AI systems cross-reference sources, an owned-only strategy underperforms a coordinated owned + earned + third-party program.

What the Case Studies Get Wrong

Two honest caveats. First, case studies by definition report successes, there is publication bias. Brands that invested in GEO and saw no lift tend not to publish case studies. Second, attribution is hard. "115% AI Overview visibility lift" during a period when AI Overviews were expanding dramatically may partially reflect the overall AI channel expansion rather than brand-specific optimization.

At Presenc AI, we track controlled metrics (mention rate on fixed prompt sets, competitor benchmarks) that partially isolate brand optimization from channel growth. This methodology provides more honest attribution than point-in-time traffic snapshots.

How to Run Your Own GEO Case Study

If you want to document your own GEO program rigorously, follow this pattern: (1) establish a baseline with a fixed prompt set measured before any interventions, (2) implement one category of changes at a time (schema, E-E-A-T, content breadth, third-party investment), (3) re-measure the same prompt set after 60 and 120 days, (4) track competitor movement on the same prompts so you can isolate your lift from market-wide change.

Presenc AI provides this measurement infrastructure out of the box. Brands running structured GEO programs with Presenc can cleanly document their case studies with baseline, intervention, and competitor-adjusted lift numbers.

Frequently Asked Questions

They are drawn from third-party agencies and vendors with varying interests. We chose cases with the most detailed methodology disclosure. Read each original source for full context, including vendor involvement.
The documented cases all reported meaningful lift within 90–180 days. This matches our own observations: below 60 days is unrealistic for most programs; 6 months is the common inflection point for compounding returns.
Investing in flagship ultimate-guide pages instead of breadth. AI systems cite specific pages for specific questions; generic mega-guides get less citation than sub-category pages that answer focused questions directly.
Often larger proportional lift, but from a smaller baseline. Smaller brands often go from near-zero to measurable AI presence within 6 months, while larger brands consolidate and protect existing presence. Both outcomes matter; the strategies differ.
