This report provides the first comprehensive benchmarks for AI mention rates across industries, AI platforms, and query types, based on Presenc AI's monitoring of over 1.2 million AI-generated responses across 2,400+ brands.

AI mention rate is defined as the percentage of relevant queries for which a brand is mentioned by name in the AI-generated response. "Relevant queries" are category-level questions where the brand could reasonably be mentioned (e.g., "What are the best project management tools?" is relevant for Asana, Monday.com, etc.). This metric excludes branded queries (queries that already contain the brand name).

Key Findings

  1. The median AI mention rate across all industries is 6.8%. This means the typical brand is mentioned in fewer than 7 out of 100 relevant AI queries — a stark reminder of how competitive AI visibility has become.
  2. Top performers achieve 25-40% mention rates, while bottom-quartile brands see rates below 2%. The gap between leaders and laggards is enormous.
  3. Perplexity has the highest average mention rates (8.2%) due to its citation-heavy response format, while ChatGPT has the lowest (5.1%) because it tends to provide generalized answers with fewer specific brand references.
  4. Comparison and recommendation queries yield 3.4x higher mention rates than informational queries, making them the most valuable query types for brand visibility.

Methodology

These benchmarks are based on Presenc AI's analysis of 1.2 million AI-generated responses collected between January and March 2026 across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, and Meta AI. Responses were generated from a query library of 48,000 category-relevant prompts across 15 industries. Brand mentions were identified using named entity recognition with manual validation for ambiguous cases. Mention rates are calculated as mentions divided by relevant queries, excluding branded queries. All rates represent aggregated averages; individual brand performance varies based on category competitiveness, brand strength, and GEO efforts.
