How the tracker works

  1. Step 1

    Define your prompt set

Start with 20–50 buyer queries with an enterprise / Microsoft-ecosystem lean, "best [category] tool that integrates with Teams", "[category] vendors on Microsoft AppSource", "alternatives to [competitor] for Office 365 users". Presenc runs them daily across Copilot Web, Microsoft 365 Copilot, and Edge Copilot Sidebar variants.

  2. Step 2

Capture mention, framing, and Bing source

Copilot responses ground in Bing search results. Presenc captures the cited sources, your brand mention status, and how Copilot frames you relative to competitors.

  3. Step 3

    Track Microsoft-ecosystem signals

Microsoft AppSource listings, LinkedIn company-page completeness, and Bing organic ranking all feed Copilot output. Presenc correlates visibility changes with these specific levers.

  4. Step 4

    Alert on enterprise-prompt regression

Enterprise buyers ask Copilot evaluative questions during procurement. A shift from "recommended" to "an option" inside Copilot can quietly cost deals. Presenc surfaces framing changes the moment they appear.

Signals the tracker measures

Bing organic ranking

Copilot grounds in Bing. A page that ranks top-3 on Bing is far more likely to be cited by Copilot than one buried on page 2. Bing optimization is now Copilot optimization.

Microsoft AppSource / Marketplace presence

For B2B SaaS, an active AppSource listing with reviews and Microsoft 365 integrations is one of the strongest Copilot signals. Brands without listings are systematically under-cited in enterprise prompts.

LinkedIn company-page authority

Microsoft owns LinkedIn. Copilot draws on LinkedIn signals, employee count, follower growth, post engagement, more than other AI assistants do.

GitHub presence (for developer tools)

Copilot in IDE and developer-flavored prompts pulls heavily from GitHub. Stars, contributors, README quality, and recent commits matter for tooling-category brands.

Schema.org + structured data

Copilot inherits Bing's appetite for structured data. Schema.org Product, Organization, and Review markup lift citation probability.

Frequently asked

How is Microsoft Copilot different from ChatGPT?

Copilot uses OpenAI models but augments them with Bing's real-time index plus Microsoft-ecosystem signals (LinkedIn, AppSource, Office). The same model behaves differently because the grounding data differs. Optimization for Copilot overlaps with ChatGPT but rewards Microsoft-stack signals additionally.

How does Copilot in Microsoft 365 differ from Copilot Web?

Microsoft 365 Copilot grounds primarily in tenant data (the user's Outlook, OneDrive, SharePoint), but for category questions and external research it falls back to Bing-grounded answers. Public-web optimization moves the external-fallback share, which is what Presenc tracks.

Why does Copilot under-mention my brand even though ChatGPT does?

Almost always because Bing under-indexes you. Run a Bing site search and check ranking for your top category queries. Strong Google ranking does not automatically translate to Bing visibility, particularly for newer domains.

Does Copilot cite my pages?

Yes, in Web mode citations are visible. In Microsoft 365 Copilot, citations are tenant-internal so external pages may not show inline links. Presenc tracks both layers.

How fast does Copilot visibility change?

Faster than ChatGPT default, slower than Perplexity. Bing index changes propagate within days; AppSource and LinkedIn signals shift over weeks.

Should I block BingBot to control Copilot inclusion?

Blocking BingBot removes you from both Bing Search and Copilot grounding. The tradeoff is severe for most brands, you lose the entire enterprise/Microsoft surface, not just Copilot.
